He was predeceased by: his parents, Hrant Dernek and Marie Dernek (Mergen). He is survived by: his wife Jaklin Dernek; his son Alain Hrant Dernek (Lorna Djandjikian); his grandchildren, Alexandre and Liana Dernek; his brother Ara Samson Dernek (Rose-Marie); his siblings-in-law, Janet Sari (France), Jirair and Onno Minasakian (Greece); his nephew Aris; and his nieces, Maria, Jennifer, Karin, Lydia and Julie.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Notre-Dame-de-Nareg Church, or to the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation.
