He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Michel and Eva Michel (Jung); his wife Clarice Mae Hefenieder; and his siblings, Edward Michel, Henry Jacob Michel, Rachel Klemm, Leah Johnson and Frieda Reiber.

He is survived by: his sons, James Allen Jr. and Thomas; and his granddaughter Jacqueline Marie. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Z.E.S.T Fund in care of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
