He was predeceased by: his son James; his parents, John Abell and Thelma Abell; and his siblings, Don, Jay and Nita.
He is survived by: his wife Sonja Abell; his sisters, Theresa Hohl and Debbie Duncan; his daughter Sasha Johnston (Chris Johnston); and his grandchildren, Eli, Caleb and Lexi.
