He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Hoffman and Collette Hoffman (Reinhardt); and his son Johnathan Hoffman. He is survived by: his former wife Barbara Hedberg; his wife Victoria Howell (Bertrand); his children, Casey Bertrand, Christopher Howell of Rawlins, WY and Melvin Jr. Hoffman (Dorothy); his grandsons, Kevin and Dustin of Sleepy Eye, MN; his sons, Billy Hoffman (Shellie) of Mitchell, SD and Randy Hoffman; his grandchildren, Jamie, Tyler, Mason and Cory of South Dakota; his daughter Christina Weber (Norm) of Craig, IA; his grandchildren, Nakiya Walker, Samuel Rosenkranz of Sioux Falls and Bonnie Hoffman; his great grandchild Esme Pierce of Sioux City, IA; and also, Bianca Walker of Mitchell, SD, Ariel Walker Jackson of Madison, SD and Adam Hoffman of Brookings, SD. He is also survived by siblings, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held later this spring due to Covid restrictions.
