He was predeceased by: his wife Edna (Peterson); and his siblings, Harold Kunkel, Gerald Kunkel, Ethelene Peterson and Betty Albert.

He is survived by: his parents, Roy Edward Kunkel and Lela Pearl Kunkel (Crawford); and his children, Gary Kunkel and Sylvia (Grossi). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
