He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil G. Hehr and Beuna E. Nolan Hehr Metzler; his son Preston Hehr; and his grandparents, Friedrich Hehr (Elizabeth Kreig Hehr), William Nolan and Dora Smiley Nolan.
He is survived by: his wife Susan Hehr of Green River, Wyoming; his daughters, Chandra Hehr Westerfield (Brian) of Charlottesville, Virginia and Valerie Van Matre Persky (Donald) of San Francisco, California; his daughter-in-law Lara Cummins Hehr of Omaha, Nebraska; his son Donald Van Matre III (Evelyn) of Sinclair, Wyoming; his siblings, Loni Hehr of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Kathy Hehr Alden of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and his grandchildren, Lochlan, Kyra, Koen, Ryker, Hanna, Louis, Susan, David and Megan. He is also survived by several cousins; nieces and a nephew.
