He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James William Tippy and Moira Glacken Tippy of Spokane; his wife Bonnie Tippy; his children, Cody of Laramie, Aaron, Tanner, Rowdy of Green River, Shelby and Ivory; his grandchildren, Camryn, Colton and Everest; his sister Laura Tippy of Montrose; his mother-in-law Debra Schasteen (Orrill Briggs); and his niece Hannah Tippy.

“This news breaks my heart! Barry and I forged a very special relationship serving together in the 18th SPS at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan. While I could write page after page of 'Hold My Beer' stories, I could also write innumerable pages on the things he did to support the younger troops in the squadron. Although I had a chance to catch up with him after we both left the Air Force, I regret that I will no longer have that opportunity. I'll miss you, buddy! Post!”
