He was predeceased by: his parents, Gottlieb Gerlach and Anna Titze Gerlach; his wife Iona; his siblings, Harvey Gerlach, Norman Gerlach, Irene Blunt and Marlys Pemrick; and his son-in-law John E. Lavrenz.

He is survived by: his sister Ruth Moeller of Ames, IA; and his daughters, Vee Bleizeffer (Dave), Lynn McDonald (Bill) and Lee Lavrenz of Gillette. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
