He was predeceased by: his parents, Eldred Shields and Orlene Shields; his wife Jean Shields; his sisters, Dolores Fortin and Janice Bryon; his niece Angela Fortin; his parents-in-law, Jack and Betty Jones; and his sister-in-law Beverly Shields.
He is survived by: his children, Anthony Shields, Richard Shields (Kelly) and Amanda Shields (Will); his grandchildren, Michael Shields (Steele), Matthew Shields (Sierra), Shonteal Butcher (Nike), James Butcher (Samantha) and Craig Shields; his brothers, Van Shields and Arlen Shields (Glenda); and his siblings-in-law, Bud Bryon, Robert Fortin, Charlie "Chick" Jones (Theresa) and Cherie Bigelow (Steve). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
