He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Gilda Dirks and Charles Dirks Sr.; his friend Coors; his foster father Craig Reed; his nephews, Thomas, Patrick, Michael and Ben; his niece Amanda; his brother Barney Dirks; his nephews, Melvin Shuck, Brian Dirks, Craig Dirks and Jake Dirks; his brother-in-law Fred Case; his wife Pat Dirks; his children, James Dirks (Lara) and Jody Dirks; his sisters, Doris Case and Dolly Deranleau (Carl); his grandsons, Logan Dirks and Cameron Dirks; and his foster son Craig Reed. He was also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial account has been established to help offset medical expenses.
