He was predeceased by: his parents, Oba Dempsey and Martha Dempsey; his wife Katherine Holbrook Dempsey; and his siblings, George "Toon" Dempsey of Washington, Thomas "Dickie" Jefferson Dempsey, Norma Dalton, Lorene Browning and Geneva "Tootsie" Baisden.
He is survived by: his children, Roger Dempsey (Sabrina) of Whitman, WV and Angela Hopkins (David) of Holden, WV; his granddaughter Kristin Dempsey of St. Louis, MO; his stepgrandchildren, David Hopkins II of McConnell, WV and Shannon Hopkins of Landville, WV.; and his caregivers, Shawna Workman and Teresa Perry. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
