He was predeceased by: his parents, Ed Helmick and Irma Knight Helmick; his wife Sue Riffle Helmick; his son Shannon Helmick; his stepson Michael Smallwood; his grandson Darren Goodrich; and his sisters, Dorsey Brown and Judy Fincham.
He is survived by: his children, Robert Helmick of Springfield, OR, Dave Helmick (Nicki) of Weston, WV and Teresa Bosely of Weston; his stepson Doug Moore (Amy) of Buckhannon, WV; his daughter-in-law Addie Helmick of Buckhannon; his sister Brenda Stewart (Paul) of Burnsville; his brother-in-law Jerry Brown of Exchange, WV; and his grandchildren, Conner of Buckhannon, Noah Moore of Buckhannon, Kristen Smith, Allan Smallwood, Alexis Kelley (Matthew) of Clarksburg, WV, Cassandra of Buckhannon, Desiree of Buckhannon, Elizabeth Helmick of Buckhannon, Dakota Goodrich, Tiffany Goodrich of Glenville, WV, Adam Brinegar of Morgantown, WV, Madison Brinegar of Martinsburg, WV, Crystal Conrad of Burnsville, WV, Jamie Singleton of Copen, WV and Nic Singleton of Burnsville. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
