He was predeceased by: his parents, Vernal Johnson and Jane Johnson; his brother Vernal Dale Johnson Jr.; his brothers-in-law, George Nichols and Carl Gagnon; and his mother-in-law Elizabeth Roush.
He is survived by: his wife Diana L. Roush Johnson; his sons, John Johnson II (Jeana) of Hurricane, WV, Travis Johnson (Jessica) of West Columbia, WV and Dale "Scooter" Johnson (Heather) of Racine, OH; his grandchildren, Madisyn, Caden Johnson of Hurricane, WV, Peyton Johnson of Racine, OH and Briar Johnson of West Columbia, WV; his sister Gewanna Nichols of Mason, WV; his father-in-law James Roush of West Columbia, WV; his siblings-in-law, Connie Burton (Ron Ferguson) of Coolville, OH, Tina Gagnon of Scott Depot, WV and Bobby Roush (Julie); and his aunt Lucy Johnson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, friends.
