He was predeceased by: his parents, William A. Atwell and Augusta Farley Atwell; his wife Helen Louise Parsons Atwell; and his brothers, Odel William Atwell, Verlin Atwell and Justin Atwell.
He is survived by: his stepchildren, Kay Parsons Miller (Vernon) of Roanoke, VA, Edward "Preacher" Parsons (Linda) of Roanoke and Michael Parsons (Doris) of Massillon, OH; his sisters, Leola Brooks of Pineville and Goldie Allen of Oceana; and his caregiver Danny Allen of Welch. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
