He was predeceased by: his parents, Harmon Carter and Melva Adkins Carter; his former wife Stella Kathrine Tomblin Carter; his son Wendell Moore (Leonard Carter Jr.); his siblings, Ralph Carter, Ethel Watts, Verdella Parsons and Maggie White; his daughter-in-law T. Wanda Carter; his great grandchild Levi Clay; and his daughter-in-law Rose Carter.
He is survived by: his wife Mazie Dalton Carter of Wayne, WV; his children, Harold Carter, Jerry Carter, Jinks Carter, Teresa Carter Watson, Loretta Lambert (Jason) and Juanita Nelson (Phillip); his daughters-in-law, Kathy Carter and Melissa Moore; and his siblings, Harmon Carter (Pauline), Nancy Browning, Marie Robinson and Carol Blevins. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, a slew of great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
