He is survived by: his wife Donna Frasher Merritt; his children, Marlena Merritt, Chris Merritt and Richie Merritt (Tonya); his sisters, Faye White (Howard), Sharon Adkins (Delmer) and Freda Alexander; his grandchildren, Zach (Nikki), Seth (Jennifer), Dallas, Joshua, Jacob, Kaliah, Miley and Kendalyn; his great grandchildren, Nell, Jaycee, Jaxson and Randi Ann; his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Merritt and Joyce Merritt; and his nephews, Todd Elliott (Angie), Randall (Samantha), Tyler (Megan), Zeke and Cash.
