He was predeceased by: his father Edward J. Oates; and his sister Judy. He is survived by: his mother Ruby Helen Oates (Patterson) of Parkersburg; his wife Connie Oates (Young); his son Dr. Gary Oates (Kaela) of Waverly, WV; and his grandchildren, Carter and Emily Oates.
