He was predeceased by: his parents, George William and Zorphia Ellen Simmers Sr. (Knicely); his siblings, George W. Simmers Jr., Charles Simmers, Ronald Simmers, Linda Allman and Shelva Simmers; and his niece Crystal Simmers.
He is survived by: his brother Painting; his close friend Mary Judy; his children, Angela Nelson of Tennessee and James Simmers of Tennessee; his stepchildren, Mary Ann Knight (Johnny) of Rockingham, Joanne Mallow of Riverton, WV, Martha Sager (Thomas) of Baker, WV, Debbie Grogg of Mathias, WV and Shannon Judy (Hazel) of Mathias, WV; and his siblings, Carolyn Dickenson of Bridgewater, Patricia McDaniel of Florida, Donnie Simmers (Cindy) of Bridgewater and Roger Simmers (Jerry Roston) of Dayton. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to the McMullen Funeral Home, 5784 Greenmount Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22802, to offset burial expenses.
