He is survived by: his wife Cheryl Ashworth Shafer; his son Billy Ray; his daughter-in-law Christine Shafer of Reedy; his daughter Mary Ann; his son-in-law Wayne Cummings of Elkview; his brother James Shafer of Elkview; his grandchildren, Amber Wilson, Josh Shafer, Stephanie Shafer, Jessica Hughes, Matthew Shafer and Kaitlyn Shafer; and his great grandchildren, Ethan Marks, Payton Pauley and Lilly Elswick.
