He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde R. Patterson and Ida Verona Patterson (Smith); his wife Janice; his siblings, Robert, Stanley, Dixie and Alan; and his grandson Beau Patterson.
He is survived by: his children, William "Bill" Patterson (Kim) of Parkersburg, WV, Robert "Bob" Patterson of Parkersburg, WV and Betsy Patterson of Parkersburg, WV; his grandchildren, Blake Patterson (Megan), Matt Patterson (Carrie), Bruce Patterson, Tyler Bolen, Emily Rudolph (Robert) and Jaye Lynn DeVaughn; and his great grandchildren, Brooks Patterson, Virginia Patterson, Demi Patterson, Evelyn Rudolph and Eli Rudolph.
