He was predeceased by: his parents, Orville B. Shahan and Florence Shahan; his wife Naomi Shahan; his son John E. Shahan, Jr.; and his brother Howard Shahan.
He is survived by: his children, Danny Shahan of Tunnelton and Judy Judy of Polk City, FL; his daughter-in-law Crystal Shahan of Salem, WV; his grandsons, Jason Baylor and Brian Shahan; his great grandchildren, Tyler Baylor, Shalyn Baylor, Sarah Baylor, Brian Shahan and Olivia Williamson; his great great grandchildren, Raven and Willow Williamson; and his sons-in-law, Fred Judy and Richard Baylor. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
