Jerry Edward Downey Obituary
On March 3, 2018 Jerry Edward Downey of Tornado, WV was carried into the arms of Jesus to his heavenly home. At age 17 he met the love of his life, Barbara Jo Romine. Prior to their marriage in 1953, he joined the US Navy and served on the USS Borie, DD704. In 1965 he committed his life to the Lord and served him faithfully for his remaining 53 years.
He always gave God the praise for everything. When given a prognosis of 6 months to a year, he put it in the Lord's hands, who graciously extended his life for 3 more years. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Downey and Mabel Lee. Sister Wilma and brother Everett. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Barbara Jo, son Kirt E, daughter Christa Boggess (John) grandsons, Cheston Boggess (Stephanie) and John Boggess (Kelly).
Great granddaughters Reagan and Ashtan. Brothers Lee Downey and Charles Downey (Mae). Much love and appreciation goes to his Hospice nurse, Mark, who he grew to love as a friend, brother and confidant and also to all involved with Hospice at Hubbard Hospice West. Jerry wrote as follows: Today Jesus, my Savior, opened the door for me to enter into my new mansion which he had already prepared for me.
You need to check with the Lord and make sure He has a place for you also. I hope it is near me. Remember me as you last saw me, because I am already home with family and I will be watching for you. Graveside Rites will be conducted by St. Albans VFW Post 6418 and American Legion Post 73.
