He was predeceased by: his parents, Patricia Bates and James Bates of Swiss; and his brothers, Terrance Caldwell and Johnny Bates. He is survived by: his children, Jacob Bates of Jodie and Brittany Light (Dakota) of Jodie; his sister Vivian Carroll (Larry) of Swiss; his nephews, Adam Caldwell, Gavin Caldwell and Wyatt Davenport of Swiss; and his sister-in-law Lisa Bates of Summersville. He is also survived by other cousins and distant relatives.
