He is survived by: his father Bates Bates; his brother Ty L. Bates (Starla); his children, Mary Elizabeth Hull (Kari) of Clarksburg, Alyza Irene of Clarksburg, Karmella Cleo of Clarksburg and Gerald Leo Bates of Clarksburg; his grandchildren, Kale Elizabeth of Clarksburg, Reese Clark of Clarksburg and Judd Douglas Bennett of Clarksburg; his niece Tabatha Ann Bates; his nephew Ross Bates; and his great-niece Jordyn Gwynn Sapp of Dola.
