He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward William and Annie Mae Kull Strain, Sr.; his wife Vivian Yvonne Brown Strain; and his brothers, Edward Strain, Jr. and John Strain.

He is survived by: his children, Shawn Alexander Strain (Candice Blake Strain) and Terra Lynn Strain of St. Albans; his grandsons, Christian Alexander and Nikolas Alexander Strain; his brother Larry Strain; and his nieces and nephews, Aaron Strain, Chad Strain, Leah Ann Kennedy of South Charleston and Tammy Shuff of South Charleston.
