We are sad to announce that on June 6, 2023, at the age of 89, Barbara Joyce Banister of Rowlesburg, West Virginia, born in Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Jay van Long and Edith Mae Long Leonard (Howard); her husband John Richard Banister; and her children, David and Rebecca.

She is survived by: her children, John Banister of Maple Valley, WA and Raimona Rowe; and her sisters, Judith Ogden of Charleston, SC, Laquita Ann Leonard Boucheron and Patricia Louise Leonard Rivera. She is also survived by four grandchildren.

But as I became Park Commissioner President and later Town Council Member, Barb became one of my closest friends and adviser. She was a liberated woman ahead of her time and I look forward to seeing her whole in Heaven. Blessings to all!”
