He was predeceased by: his parents, James V. Proffitt and Hazel Dow Proffitt; his wife Mary Lou Evans Proffitt; his son Jeff Proffitt; his brother James "Jigs" Proffitt; and his granddaughters, Jaela Hall and Rachel Rose.
He is survived by: his children, Joe Proffitt (Kay), Joyce Quillen (Ronnie), Mindy Hill (Mike), Mary Hall, Donna Rose and Jackie Ginther (Ray); and his grandchildren, Jay Proffitt, Jason Quillen, Dolly Warden, Michael Hill, Jake, Josh Hall, Jeremy Rose and Erica Dowell. He is also survived by several great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, several nieces and nephews, and one brother.
