Porter in Ravenswood, West Virginia, born in Morgantown, West Virginia, who passed away at the age of 94, on November 17, 2020. He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Porter and Vera Straley Porter; his wife Virginia; his sister Dixie Mills; and his son James F. Porter III.

He is survived by: his children, Donald L. Porter (Susan), Sarah F. Lawrence (Ernie) and Patricia A. Cole (Hoyt). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

“What an inspiration HE has always been. The respect and love was there from the beginning. He came to Cottageville about 1954-55 to introduce the students there to join a band he was forming. Most of us who started with him came to Ravenswood and served all our years in the band. I wanted to play the trumpet, he said I didn't have the air to play it, so he suggested a saxophone. (Boy, he didn't know then how windy I was) Ha! Very few hold the place in our lives that He occupied. I have”
