He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Harrison and Ruby Ann Apperson McCauley; and his siblings, Avon, Janice, Ruby, Phyllis, Opal and Christine.

He is survived by: his wife Lavon; his children, Robin Smith (Gerald) and Benjamin McCauley, II (Stephanie); his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lindsey, Brandon, Brittany and Brooke; his great grandchildren, Bryleigh, Olivia, Sydney and Ben; and his siblings, Bill, Gary, Pete, Mary Ellen and Charlotte.
