He was predeceased by: his parents, James Austin Nutter and Ottie Edith Haynes Nutter; his siblings, Dorothy Fine, Ruth Amick, Rollin Nutter, Albert Nutter and Edward Nutter; and his stepson William Thomas Weisse.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Reed Nutter; his daughters, Diana "Candy" Smith of Quinwood, Charlemagne Smith of Baltimore, MD and Cynthia Patterson (Russell, III) of Baltimore, MD; his stepchildren, Ronald Weisse (Barry) of Gore, VA and Donna Kostanek (Richard) of Myrtle Beach, SC; his siblings, Nancy England of Thomasville, NC and Johnson Nutter of Sofia, NC; his grandchildren, Cynthia, Kathryn, Rachel, Kimberly and Ashley; and his great grandchildren, Lauren and Madison. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
