He was predeceased by: his parents, Jim Sr. Cain and Lora Cain (Bennett); and his wife Charlene "Charlie" Cain (Rutan). He is survived by: his siblings, Jim Cain (Becky) of Pulaski, VA, Faye Doll of Middlebourne, WV, Bobby Cain of Paden City, WV and Lori McClure of Stockport, OH; his children, Russell Cain Jr., Rachelle Martin, Chelsea VanDine (Jon) and Danielle "Katie" Preston (Thomas); his stepchildren, Chadwrick and Jared Novel; and his friend Linda Lewis. He is also survived by many grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
