He was predeceased by: his parents, David VanMatre and Leah VanMatre (Grinstead); his former wife Sandra Kay VanMatre; his siblings, Eddie Thomas VanMatre and Mona Lee Werner; and his sister-in-law Cecile VanMatre.
He is survived by: his wife Twila Jean VanMatre (Hutchison) of Point Pleasant; his daughters, Valerie Wilson (Shaun) and Edina Hanes (Ken) of Colorado Springs, CO; his stepsons, Benton Hall (Brenda) of Sierra Vista, AZ and Timothy Hall (Teresa) of Edgewater, FL; his grandchildren, Shea Russell, Greer Hanes and Macy Hanes; his stepgrandchildren, Cailyn Hall, Keely Leever, Angela Christoph, Haley Elliott and Morgan Pierce; his brother Paul David "Duck" VanMatre of Letart, WV; and his sister-in-law Connie Kay VanMatre of Mason, WV. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
