It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Velma Bates (Pine Grove, West Virginia), born in Jacksonburg, West Virginia, who passed away on May 30, 2019, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Jesse Wetzel and Lilly Wetzel (Utt); her husband Mack Bates; her grandson Eddie Mack Bates; her stepgreat-grandson Dakota Brenneman; and her siblings, Robert Wetzel, Georgia Smith, Phyllis Haught and Sally Dunlap.
She is survived by: her children, John Mack Bates (Jennifer) of Jacksonburg, WV, Tresa Goodrich of Smithfield, WV, Jeff Bates of Jacksonburg, WV, Sherry Lucas of Jacksonburg, WV and Rick Bates (Dawn) of Jacksonburg, WV. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
