Thomas W Matiyasic Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of our nephew Thomas Wade Matiyasic, age 49, after a lifelong battle with alcohol addiction and the subsequent health conditions of liver and kidney failure, he died October 5, 2024 in his home with family by his side.
Tom was born May 8th, 1975, in the Washington Hospital, the son of Stella Diane Allen and Tom Matiyasic. He was raised by his mother and grandparents, Clement and Joan Allen in Marianna Pennsylvania. Tom later lived in the Houston /Canonsburg area until moving to Bellington West Virginia, where he resided with his long-time companion and love, Donna Jones and children, Nick and Jacob Jones; grandson Ivan Jones. Tom attended Bethlehem-Center schools and Chartiers-Houston High School, later earning a GED. Tom worked for many years around the Canonsburg area for different companies which did construction of new homes and buildings. He excelled at brick and block laying and drywall. He then earned a certificate in coal mining through the United Mine Workers Career Training Center and was employed by. Bailey mines. Due to health reasons he needed to retire and moved to Bellington, West Virginia. Tom enjoyed reading James Patterson books, trying different gourmet foods, college football (especially the Georgia bulldogs and Penn State), cooking (but not cleaning up), and putting together large-scale Lago panoramas with his grandson Ivan. He loved the movie "Godfather "and always dreamed of traveling to Italy to explore the land, eat, drink, and be merry. He loved heavy metal music but enjoyed Irish music and bagpipes just as well. Tom loved time spent with his friends and family gatherings. As Robin St John said, "what the heart gives away is never gone, it is kept in the hearts of others... Those who will always keep a part of Tom in their hearts beside Donna and Ivan, are Uncle Clemmy Allen, Washington, Aunts Kathie Allen, Washington, Judith Penn and husband David, Taylorstown, Candy Allen, Washington, Georgeana Allen, Waynesburg. cousins: David H. Penn and wife Rachel and their children, Ian and Lilly. Pittsburgh PA, Cara Nadberazny and husband Joseph and their children, Rosie and Joey, Washington PA, Michael Allen, Waynesburg PA, and Joanna Siebert and husband Joseph, and their children, Macie and NolaKat, Uniontown Pennsylvania, Godmother, Donna Siber, West Newton. Also, a large extended family of aunts, second and third cousins. Tom was preceded in death by his mother Stella Diane Allen, Father Tom Matiyasic, grandparents Joan and Clemmy Allen, Uncle George "Moochie" Allen, several cousins, great-uncles and great-aunt.
In honoring Tommy's wishes his remains were cremated. There will be a memorial service and gathering of family and friends, on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 11 am until 1 pm at the Salandra Funeral Home, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg Pennsylvania. Arrangements locally have been provided by the Kittle Family Funeral Home.
