Orville Burlin Cain Obituary
Orville "Pap, Dappy" Burlin Cain, age 89 a resident of the Pepper Community, Bridgeport, West Virginia, passed away from this life on Friday, June 28, 2024, at his residence while under the of WVU Hospice with his family by his side, following a period of declining health. He was a beloved father, son, brother, grandfather, and dedicated veteran of the United States Army Corps.
He was born on December 13, 1934, in Brownton, West Virginia, a son to the late Leonidas and Rebecca Jane (Adams) Cain.
On June 13, 1959, he joined hands in marriage to the former Betty Jane Davis, who preceded him in death on.
Orvile leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by his son; Orville James Cain, daughters; Alice McGee and husband, John, Helen Zirkle and husband, Danny, Nellie Jo Starkey, and Wilma Jane Starkey and husband, Willard Sr., several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews including, David Cain whom he thought of as a brother. Mr. Cain was preceded in death by a son David Cain, son-in-law, Bob Starkey. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by brothers; Ed and Jim Cain, sisters; Vernie Flanagan, Mildred Propst, Genevieve Costolow, Rosie Cain, Violet Wilson, Eva Stout, and Mary Reed. Also preceding him death were two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Pap was a Christian by faith. After completing his education and earning his high school diploma he enlisted in the United States Army Corps. Pap came back home to raise a family with his wife Betty and started working in the coal mines for Republic Steel and later he retired from Kitt Energy. He loved being outdoors fishing, hunting, and going for long car rides with his children. Pap also would watch a lot of television watching pro wrestling, watching football and he would cheer on the Pittsburgh Steelers, which was his favorite team, also enjoyed watching westerns. His most favorite thing to do was to have a good cold beer every now and then with his family and friends. Orville's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy that will forever be remembered. Family and friends, may gather at the Kittle Family Funeral Home 265 Beech Ave. Philippi on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm., and again on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm when a funeral service will be conducted with Pastor Patty Post and her daughter Pastor Jeannie Lafferty officiating and burial will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery.
