He was predeceased by: his parents, John Glenneth and Alda Alene Shaffer (Nitz); and his son John Paul Shaffer. He is survived by: his children, Traci Shaffer (Bart McCauley) and Jason Shaffer (Constance); and his grandchildren, Samantha, Hunter, Cody Mason and Hudson Shaffer.

Visitation was held on Friday, December 27th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, December 28th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Wright Funeral Home (220 N Walnut St, Philippi, WV 26416). A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 28th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorial contributions be made to the Barbour Country Club.
