He was predeceased by: his parents, Bracket Oliver and Annie Main Porterfield. He is survived by: his wife Betty Ann; his children, Charles Edwin (Denise), Keith Oliver (Betsy) and Rhonda Lynn; his grandchildren, Kristen Frye, Jessica Mann, Stephanie Bowles and Amy Oxley; and his brothers, John, William "Burke" and Lee Porterfield. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
