He was predeceased by: his parents, Dallie Kanode and Annie Kelly Kanode; his former wife Kathleen Cole Kanode; his son Robert Kanode; his siblings, Don, Harold, Shorty, William Kanode, Ilene Leech and Mary Boyd; and his stepchildren, Bryan "Beardog" Cole and Melanie Tingler.
He is survived by: his wife Willia Gray O'Neill Cole; his children, Johnny Kanode and Kathy Frazier (Earl) of Peterstown, WV; his daughter-in-law Linda Kanode; his stepchildren, Bobby Cole (Patty) of Wikel, WV and Betty Bindas (Eddie) of Salem, VA; and his siblings, Jimmy Kanode of Quinwood, WV and Maggie Donathan. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren.
