He was predeceased by: his wife Lois Painter Via; his daughters, Ginny Carroll (Wayne) and Kathy Via; his brother Wayne Via; and his parents, Deward Via and Eunice Via of McClean, VA..

He is survived by: his granddaughter Beth Carroll of Maine; and his niece Mary Eunice Erikson (Mike) of Capon Bridge, WV. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

“I am going to miss my buddy, Vince. I have known Vince since 1952. We worked together at USGS. I enjoyed our good times together throughout the many years of working together & through retirement. Vince loved to bring his home made signature Chili at work. Lois & Vince also hosted nice parties at their home & they always made everyone feel welcome. Recently I spent time with Vince at his home in Petersburg, where of course, he served me Chili. Deepest Sympathy. Vince's Good Buddy Don D.”
