Jacob Edward Clifford Obituary
Jacob Edward Clifford, 69, of Williamsport, W.Va., died Friday, April 19, 1929.
Born on April 1, 1860, in Grant County, he was a son of the late Issac Clifford and Elizabeth Jane (Redman) Clifford. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his wife, Jane K. (Green) Clifford, in 1919; one infant son; one daughter, Louisa Clifford; five brothers, Theodore, David, James, Isaac and William Clifford, and one sister, Mary Stuart.
Mr. Clifford joined the M. E. Church at age 19, which he was a consistent member until his death. So anxious was he about his fathers business he became a local preacher and filled the pulpit of several churches of the county when the pastor was not present. Mr. Clifford was an honest hard, working-man and was respected by all who knew him.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Virginia K. Beckwith and Mrs. Myrtle M. Bruce, both addresses unknown; six sons, James M., Charles B., Harrison W., Ervin R., Leonard E., and Floyd F. Clifford, all addresses unknown; a number of grandchildren; one brother, John Clifford, address unknown, and four sisters, Elizabeth Washington, Lucy Howard, and Susan and Rachael Kent, all addresses unknown.
Funeral services were conducted at the M. E. Church, and it was said that Mr. Clifford had the largest number of guests attended his funeral that the church had ever seen.
Interment was in Green Hill Cemetery.
