He was predeceased by: his wife Sally Bess Hayes (Hershberger); his parents, Rollie R. Hayes and Lena C. Hayes (Urice); and his siblings, Erman "Hoppy" Hayes, Ernest "Sam" Hayes, Ervin "Bunk" Hayes and Madeline C. Jones.
He is survived by: his children, Debbie Meagher (Melvin Fix), Donald Hayes, Jr. (Sheryl), Dinah Chaney (Denny), Donna Cox (Kirby) and Davey Hayes (Karen); his siblings, Betty Gains and Leon "Poodle" Hayes (Joan); and his close friends, Jim, Darlene Aldridge and Billy Bradfield. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren (1 predeceased); 24 great-grandchildren.
