He was predeceased by: his parents, Omer Merritt and Marie Merritt; his wife Vicie Opal Fry Merritt; and his son Douglas Elliott Merritt. He is survived by: his children, Patty Roach of Wayne, WV, Aleta Hardwick (Chris) of Lavalette, WV, Stanley Merritt (Linda) of Wayne, WV, Brett Merritt (Valerie) of Lavalette, WV and Quinn Merritt (Tracey) of Newark, OH; his brother Cecil Merritt (Janice) of Hopkinsville, KY; his grandchildren, Isaiah Merritt (Courtney), Levi Merritt (Sarah), Aaron Clay, Lori Ballester (Mike), Jordan Merritt, Haley Merritt, Katelyn Merritt and Seth Hardwick; and his great grandchildren, Carson, Isabella, Canaan, Wynn, Capp, Sydney, Mitchell and Rachel. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
Due to elderly and immune compromised family members, masks and social distancing will be required.
