He is survived by: his children, Lavonda Hughes (Timothy) of Oak Hill, John Edward Merritt (Karen) of Oak Hill, James Howard Merritt (Connie) of Oak Hill and Steven Wayne Merritt (Christina) of Cincinnati; and his siblings, Mary Sue Fankell of Oak Hill and Jerry Merritt (Marion) of California. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.
