It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Edward Bess (Oak Hill, West Virginia), born in Smithers, West Virginia, who passed away on February 9, 2020, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Rufus Custer and Virgie L. Covington Bess; his wife Eunice Naomi Bess; his sons, James Raymond Bess and Gregory Allen Bess; his grandson Craig Edward Bess; and his daughter-in-law Polly Bess.
He is survived by: his children, Dennis Edward Bess, Charles Vernon Bess (Nancy), Jerry L. Bess (Lisa), Stephen Keith Bess (Jennifer), Robert Dale Bess (Debbie), Douglas Alan Bess (Shelia), Deborah Kay Bess Hicks (Earl) and Ray Smith; his grandchildren, Chris Via, Kevin Allen Bess, Jamie Bess Whicker, Susan Bess Gilkerson, T. J. Bess, Melani Bess Hylton, Tiffany Bess, Jill Bess Johnston and Stephen Bess, Jr.; his great grandchildren, Lexis Bess, Ashton Bess, Kevin Bess, Jr., Jacob Bess, Bailey Bess, Macie Bess, Jaylon Whicker, Ashley Hobbs, Ryan Gilkerson, Morgan Hylton, Carlie Smith, A. J. Smith, Madison Bess, Sara Bess, Braxton Bess, Jay Bess, Emma Johnston, Kaleb Kidd, Kendra Bess and Jacy Bess; and his great great grandchild Easton Allen Bess.
