He was predeceased by: his parents, James Lee and Glenna M. Grant Higginbotham; his brother Larry Lee Higginbotham; and his father-in-law George Everitt. He is survived by: his significant other Carla Everitt Higginbotham; his daughters, Kristin Scharnhorst (Scott) of Good Hope and Kimberly Higginbotham (Peter Rohn) of Chicago, IL; his grandchildren, Bebhinn, Godric, George and Finnbheara Scharnhorst; his brothers, Danny Higginbotham (Paula) of Clarksburg, Ronnie Higginbotham (Nancy) of West Union and George Higginbotham (Kate) of Glen Ellyn, IL; his stepmother Susan Higginbotham of Brolingbrook, IL; and his parents-in-law, Diane, Jane, Tim, Elaine, Janet and Luella Everitt. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
