With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Gwendolyn C. Sumpter of Normantown, West Virginia, born in Arnoldsburg, West Virginia, who passed away on January 25, 2023 at the age of 104. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Gwendolyn C. Sumpter to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Leeman Alltop and Allie Alltop (Beall); her husband Oren Sumpter; her daughter Judy Hashman; her grandson Steve Fluharty; her brothers, Frank Alltop and Eustace Alltop; and her son-in-law Kenny Schulz.
She is survived by: her children, Sharon (Schulz), Joan Fluharty (Wayne) of Canton, Ohio, Peggy Whyte (Paul) of Jackson, Ohio and Bryan Sumpter (Cheryl) of Monroeville, Indiana.; her grandchildren, Ron Schulz (Cheryl) of North Branch, Michigan, Dean Schulz (Sabrina) of Pittsboro, Dawn Burns (Tim) of Elyria, Ohio, Libby Hashman of Edmond, Oklahoma, Scott Fluharty of Canton, Ohio, Stacy Brunner (John) of Columbus, Ohio, Bill Whyte (Theresa) of Wooster, Ohio and Michael Sumpter (Miranda) of Hicksville, Ohio.; and her half-siblings, Karen Duley (Clyde) of Belpre, Betty McDonald of Coolville, Ohio. and Leeman Junior Alltop of Coolville, Ohio.. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Upper Steer Run Baptist Church (456 Steer Run, Normantown, WV 25267), or to the Senior Nutrition Program at the Gilmer County Senior Center (720 N Lewis St, Glenville, WV 2635).
