He was predeceased by: his parents, Amos Edward and Dulcie "Dutch" Kelley Nicholson; his former wife Wilma "Jean" Bonnell Nicholson; his siblings, Ellen Marie Polan, Charles "Dickie" Nicholson, Carrie Cumberledge, Denzil Nicholson, Opal Mae Shafer, Betty Shafer, Eugene "Shorty" Nicholson, Bertie Ward and Phillip Nicholson; and his parents-in-law, Gerald and Ellen Ford Gaskins.

He is survived by: his wife Creola Marie Gaskins Nicholson; his sons, Jeffrey R Nicholson (Pamela Jean) and Donavan L Nicholson (Pamela); his grandchildren, Donavan, Jesse Dotson (Steve) and Dustin Nicholson (Lauren); his great grandchildren, Trey, Addie, Kacen, Tucker, Alli, Emmie, Ollie and Spencer; his siblings, Milton Dean Nicholson and Nancy Lee Skinner; his sisters-in-law, Anna Belle Gaskins Richards and Mary Grace Maxwell Gaskins; and his nephews, Carlen "Bill" Stone and Norman Nicholson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
