He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Backus and Elizabeth Eileen Fink Backus of Mullens; and his son Leonard Martin Backus Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Judith Wiley Backus; his sister Janet Lester (James E.) of Grove City, Ohio; his daughters, Karla Sue Morris (Steve), Leigh Anne Dials and Robin R. Loos; and his grandchildren, Brandon M. Chaffins, Andrew Dials, Stephanie R. Loos, Aaron J. Chaffins, Amanda L. Chaffins, Tabitha R. Dials, Taylor L. Loos Messey (Alex), Nicholas A. Loos and Nathaniel A. Loos. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
