He was predeceased by: his father Edward James Smith. He is survived by: his mother Elizabeth Smith (Dobbs); his sons, Bryan and Andrew Smith; his daughters-in-law, Gretchen Hoover and Regina Smith; his grandchildren, Jacob Smith and Pandora Jane Smith; his stepgrandchildren, Liam and Audrey Caudill; and his siblings, James Edward Jr., Richard, Michael, Jimmy and Roxanne Smith.

Visitation was held on Monday, November 18th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Hastings Funeral Home (153 Spruce St, Morgantown, WV 26505). A memorial service was held on Monday, November 18th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
