He was predeceased by: his mother Ieda Messenger; his former wife Barbara Darnell; and his sister Tena Snider. He is survived by: his father Ronald Darnell; his wife Mary Ann Higginbotham Darnell; his sons, Lucas Darnell (Kim) and Matthew Darnell (Jill); his stepchildren, Cloressa Higginbotham and Verronica Nightingale; and his siblings, Sherrie Temple, Sheila Morgan, Joann Darnell, Mike Darnell, David Darnell and Tom Darnell.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 19th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Thursday, February 20th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the McCulla Funeral Home (770 Fairmont Rd, Morgantown, WV 26501). A funeral service was held on Thursday, February 20th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
